Mike’s involvement in the Hampton Roads community begins when his father, a Navy fighter pilot, is stationed at NAS Norfolk in 1965, and he enters the 7th grade at Thalia Elementary School.

Continuing his education, he graduates from Princess Anne High School in 1971, and it is here that he meets Renee, the young woman who will eventually become his wife.

They marry in 1973 and, 2 years later, their first child arrives, shortly after Mike begins a career in the maritime community at the Port of Hampton Roads.

As is true for many young couples as they begin their journey in life on the income of only one spouse, they struggle financially, but that difficulty serves as the impetus for Mike to attend night school at St. Leo College, (now University) where he earns his BA in Business Management.

During this time, a second child arrives, and their journey continues as a family of four.

In an attempt to improve their standard of living, Mike decides to enter the Financial Services industry in 1984 and his career takes him to various companies, all the while obtaining numerous professional licenses and designations that add to his understanding of the profession.

His children attend and graduate from the colleges that they enter, and pursue their desired professions accordingly.

In 2004, he and his son join forces together as a father-son team at Merrill Lynch, until launching out on their own as the owners of First Landing Financial, in 2009.

Along the way, the greatest joys that a family can experience arrive in the form of 3 grandsons and 1 granddaughter, all of whom reside in Va. Beach, and who are attending, or will soon attend, public schools in the city.

It is because of these grandchildren, and the desire that they experience a solid, rigorous education that prepares them for the challenges that await them in their futures, that Mike is seeking to serve his community as a member of the Va. Beach School Board.
